anyone have a success story? Please anyone if you have had any successes with this disease using the quinine (or any other treatment for that matter) it would be useful and encouraging to post them. I will post mine after my cat has his success which I am trying to feel confident about.
Re: anyone have a success story?Hi
I am Daveyo, and to answer your question I can only give you this information. First a lot has to do with catching this disease in its early stages which is very difficult. Secondly one has to be absolutely certain if it is dry version or the wet version. Third is the cat itself and its genetics if it will respond which only 75% do. Fourth the success for Atabrine is confirmed and the quinine is for life and again it depends on the response of the Cats immune system to allow it to work and of how early this is detected. Success stories I don't know and its all up to the owners to post. I do know many from the clinic from former Dr. Sears, and many once treated are gone and we never hear from them and a lot of times hardly a thank you. They come in complaining this and that and plead their case, and once the cats are fully treated and healthy again, we hear no more of them. go figure. I do hope someone can make some posts to inform us their results. This is all I can say and I hope you continue to have the faith and hope the treatment and your cat does respond. Daveyo
Re: anyone have a success story?A success story in progress:
My cat (Chester) has started his quinine at 50 mg for now. He is on day 3 and is tolerating it well. I have measured his extended belly (it is at 21.75 inches) and his weight is 10 lbs. That is 4 lbs heavier than he was before the swelling (when he was merely emaciated). half gallon of fluid build up. Can't afford the additional expense of testing his levels but I am watching him carefully and will post his progress. I am trying to talk my vet into teaching me how to drain his fluids so I can do it more often. Since he was supposed to have died by now he is already a success story of sorts. My vet says she has never sen a cat with F.I.P. wet live this long.
Re: anyone have a success story?Hi Mep
Good to hear, keep an eye on it carefully. You still have about 2 weeks to go before that quinine really kicks in and in some cases sooner, but it will definitely help your kitty out a mile long. I hope it continues to respond and keep the fluid out because it takes a bit of time for the quinine to really get a foot hold on those antibodies that is causing the build up. Make sure the VET can get a simple blood test to find out the antibody levels. If it goes down, then you know its working. If it is high or no change then its a stale mate. You have to watch it carefully OK Oh by the way quinine in high doses I think makes the cat high over 100mg, so watch where it goes OK. Not sure cause I never had it. Ask the VET and maybe he can look it up in the dictionary. Hehehehehehe. Saw one cat on the stuff, doing over 100mg and it was lying on the drinking bowl upside down sleeping soundly with the water on its back. Went over and turn it back on its legs and it shook its head and said thank you and mosey over to a dry spot and its head went right down sleeping and its rear end stuck up in the air. Very unusual. But the drug worked and today it is doing just fine, as the dosage went down and the antibodies at normal level. Keep posting and let me know. Daveyo
Re: anyone have a success story?I live in Canada, and all I know is if you cat or kitten has the FIP you just need to give them the best love and care til they come to a point of suffering and you have to put them to sleep. I think my baby is going to have to be put down in the next week or two and I am devastated and heart broken and soooo pissed off at this world we live in it is beyond explanation!!!!
