OAB DRIVING ME CRAZY

Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Aug 17, 2007 8:34 pm

Well, I guess it really started about 4 or 5 months ago. It was not as bad as it is now though. I am constantly going to the bathroom cause my bladder feels like its gonna burst if I don’t, (every single time I have to go it feels this way) and then after I go, it’s still pushing a little bit on my bladder!! It’s the most annoying thing ever! And it feels like there’s still more in there but it won’t come out. Also, I get up during the night (every night) about 3 to...Read the full article

9/11/07
I have had frequent urination problems for about 20 years! It seemed to have started when I use to drink alcohol and I had to go often. I no longer drink alcohol. I went to several urologists and they could never find anything wrong with my bladder (I had tests done). I have been on Detrol LA - the time release one also - and it seemed to help for a while, but not as well as I went along.

I am now on Ditropan and Elavil (started during the last year). With Ditropan I had to lower the dose because it was making me nauseous. The problem again is that they seemed to help for a while and then the problem just gets worse again (although not as bad as before).

I have cut coffee out almost completely because I know it causes the problem more than anything else. I drink one cup of tea in the morning (caffeinated) and that's it for caffeine for the day. It seems like if I just drink water the rest of the day it is a lot better. At night I drink one 12 oz. of soda and it also seems to make it worse.

Also, I noticed that sometimes the urine does not all come out and I can go again in 5 minutes. So, I try not to rush when I go and that helps.

I am the worst in the morning - I probably go 1-2 times an hour and after that I go about every two hours. At night I usually get up twice to go.

I know this has definitely affected my life because I avoid socializing a lot of the time because it is embarrassing to have to go so much. It also causes me stress.

However, the recent medicines have helped and if I watch what I drink, that helps, too.

I'm thinking about drinking only decaf. tea and also going to a new urologist.

Thanks for sharing and I hope this helps someone else and if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I am a 63 year old male who can sympathize with your problem as I to have to go about every two hours and my problem is worse in the morning. What may be a little different is that about half the time I probably have normal bladder function where I go every three or four hours during the day and wake up once at night. Also about twice a month I have what I call "bladder attacks" where I have to go about every fifteen minutes for a couple hours and than it gradually gets better. My condition is better when I am really concentrating on something and is worse when I am under stress. Except for over active bladder my health is reasonably good as I don't suffer from high blood pressure, high cholestrol, diabetes or other conditions common to men my age.
I have had this condition for bout twenty years and went to a doctor for it about 10 years ago. He ruled out enlarged prostate and bladder infection. Told me to cut out coffee and soda, and drink a little less liquids. When this didn't help he put me on Ditropan, which seemed to help at first, but after a while was pretty much ineffective. Like you I am just dealing with it the best I can.

I know the above is a while back now, but I would like to add about the Botox..
I have since had to have a urostomy, but just before that they tried the botox, I was asked to come in as a one day stay, that was fine by me as I was only too pleased that there was something left for them to try before the possibility of having the stoma.
I was told that they were keeping me in due to the fact that my BP could rise, not a problem to me really as it was known I had relatively low blood pressure of around 110/60.
I was given 24 injections with 20mls of botox in each syringe full all around my bladder, this was to paralyse my bladder, stop the bad spasms and I was told that it would be topped up roughly every 7 months to a year, if it worked then wow, the end of my problems..
Again unlucky me came with an allergy to it, my BP did not go up, it went down, and I developed huge lumps on my calf, then moving to the back of my legs, my bot and started to move to the front, when I got to see this I called for the nurse and I had to have a drip and antihistamine injections too, I was in for 2 full days..
So as much as I seem to be a medical blunder, all round, and unlucky in a lot of aspects regarding my health, if I knew anyone going in for it then I would say 'ask for a little to be given before the operation', then if there is an allergy it won't turn out as severe as what happened to me..
