I’m scaredMy mother died of ALS in January of 1980. It is the worst desease anyone could have. There is no cure and no one knows what brings it on. I am so scared that I may get this desease. I don’t know if there is a simple blood test to let me know but I sure would like to know. I just turned 48 and that is about the same age that my mother was dianosed with the desease. Re: I’m scaredLess than 10 percent is herediatary and if your Mom is the only one whom has had it, dont worry as your mom's is most likely sporadic in nature. I have lost 5 members to the disease and ours is familial. I have a 50 percent chance of getting it. However, there is a lot of progress and a cure in the next 10 years so I am not overly worried. Get involved with the ALSA organization and Walks and help raise awareness and money for research. Together we can end this horrible disease. Best wishes on a very long and healthy life!
